MORE April – Felgueiras Weekly

On the afternoon of April 25th, Largo Alexandre Herculano took on more charm. To celebrate April, the “MORE” – new Movimento Associativo de Intervenção Socio Cultural -, based in Felgueiras, was installed in the front part of Café Belém, offering the population a new, fresh and very striking cultural moment around the celebration of Fiftieth anniversary of the 25th of April.

Devoid of the repetitive and musty tones, that afternoon, the 25th of April was different in Felgueiras, when he appeared on the street to celebrate with the people, thus highlighting his DNA original and a more enchanting sign.

The 25th of April is not an event to be celebrated inside the Cathedrals of Portuguese Politics, but rather on the streets, and this is what genuinely happened on the afternoon of that day in many cities across the country, particularly in Porto and Lisbon, but, above all, and symbolically, in the city of Felgueiras, not in the institutional format, but in its genuine popular roots, where the Music Bands, part of a true popular festival, deeper and more global, should also have been, not just to serve as an ostentation to the power, but for the people to celebrate the 25th of April. It was a shame, just because those who had the obligation to know, actually didn’t know how, on this very special day, to properly celebrate the initial day of our reunion with history.

Cesaria Santos It is Ana Sofia Ribeiro de Melo are, among others, two prominent faces of the Group “MORE” who for some months now have been dedicated to organizing and promoting numerous cultural, social and environmental activities in the municipality.

With the main objective of getting people out of their homes and into the streets, socializing, singing and dancing, this Group also wants, and has already demonstrated this, to assert itself in the areas of defending the Environment, Recreational Activities and Cultural Traditions Municipalities, investing mainly and permanently with renewed energy, in discovering new talents and artists, helping them to promote their dreams, their skills and their arts, under the common denominator that the most important thing is to regularly promote small cultural highlights and social, as a way of promoting and dynamizing cities as primary centers of the municipality’s recreational, cultural and social life.

Having already promoted, among other activities, a Biodanza class in the parish of Jugueiros, a cinema day in the parish of Sendim, and now, this event of affirmation, exaltation and celebration of the 25th of April in the city of Felgueiras, this group, such as as all his activities already indicate, he doesn’t just want to be known by his name – “MORE” -, because what he wants most is to continue multiplying his activities with the promotion of more cultural acts, where he also intends to reach Theater as a way of embracing Crafts and Poetry more strongly in a progressively lasting path to, in the end, give more visibility and breadth to its life and cultural future in the regional space in which it operates.

And as expected, this new cultural movement, which makes a point of highlighting that it does not come from any poor generation, also promises to pay due attention to politics, if nothing else, so that its cultural activities can help it to tell the truth, which, in their opinion, is not what usually happens.

A group that promises and that, like the others, needs and will grow with the support of the people of Felgueirenses, since, as these two representatives once again highlighted, this “MORE” is just an inclusion group whose main objective is to bring people to the streets, and, from what we saw on the afternoon of the 25th of April in Felgueiras, they are already achieving this.
