The school today is much more than just a space dedicated to teaching. Proof of this is the EB-2,3 School of Aver-o-Mar which, on May 6th, opened a Snoezelen Room, called “Sensory Sea”.

It is a multi-sensory room that aims to provide sensory stimulation and reduce levels of anxiety and tension. It is a space that provides comfort and offers a large amount of sensory stimuli, which can be used individually or combined with the effects of music, notes, sounds, light, tactile stimulation and aromas. The environment that the room provides is safe, promoting self-control, autonomy, discovery and exploration, as well as positive therapeutic and pedagogical effects.

At the opening of the new space, the Director of the Aver-o-Mar School Group, Carlos Sá, walked through the historic journey of an old project that was postponed and has now been completed: “The group wants to open the space to the community, namely to the elderly. My wish is that this project is replicated”. Highlighting the diverse collaborations between the companies Quantal and CCR.

In turn, the Vice-President and Councilor for Education of the Póvoa de Varzim City Council, Luís Diamantino, recognized that the municipality is never indifferent to innovative and differentiated projects, contributed by financing the classroom floor.

In addition to thanking the companies for their collaboration in supporting the project, he also praised another initiative by the Group Director, highlighting that EB-2,3 in Aver-o-Mar, “is a school without borders, which has students from 24 countries”. As for replicating the Snoezelen Rooms, Luís Diamantino recalled that they already exist “at the Escola Cego do Maio and at MAPADI (Movement of Support for Parents and Friends for the Intellectual Diminished), and there will be, in the future, at the Centro Ocupacional da Estela”.
