“The future is in our hands” is the motto of the event that the municipality of Leiria do PS, in collaboration with JS, is promoting this Thursday, the 9th, to mark Europe Day.

The meeting will take place at Mercado de Sant’Ana, starting at 6 pm, and

will feature the participation of academics, mayors and experts, for “a conversation about European values ​​and ideas for a new European citizenship project”, explains the organization.

Among the topics under debate will be the environment and climate action and democratic culture and participation, with interventions by Luís Lopes, councilor at Leiria City Council, and Marco Gomes, professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.

Sofia Caseiro, a jurist with a doctorate in human rights in contemporary societies, will speak about human rights, while Vítor Hugo Ferreira, general director of Startup Leiria, will give an intervention related to economics.

Margarida Matias, president of the Student Association of the Henrique Sommer School Group (Maceira), and Carina Faria, director of the Palliative Care Service of the Local Health Unit of the Leiria Region, will address topics related to youth and health, respectively.

According to the organization, the meeting, “open to the community”, aims to raise awareness of the importance of the European elections.

“We want to mark this symbolic moment with activists and all people who want to participate, to celebrate the European project and the unity between Europeans that is built every day”, highlights Anabela Graça, president of the PS Leiria council, in a press release.
