The Ascensão ao Bussaco Pilgrimage is remembered with nostalgia by many residents of the municipality, but it is also an opportunity to maintain tradition. Yesterday was no exception for some members of the Folklore Ranch of São João, parish of Casal Comba, to go on a pilgrimage from this town to Mata do Bussaco. «Everything went very well», one of the participants in this group, which included a dozen people, told our newspaper upon arrival.

From Casal Comba, the group headed towards Póvoa da Mealhada and then to Vacariça, where via the Quinta do Vale road they reached Pego. It was here that, along a path in the middle of the forest, the group arrived at Portas de Coimbra, a total journey of around nine kilometers.

The pilgrimage culminated with a shared lunch at Portas de Coimbra, where the king of Mealhada delicacy – suckling pig – was not missing from the snack.

The afternoon remained a party in Mata do Bussaco, with participation in the various scheduled activities, where there was no shortage of performances by some folkloric groups in the Gardens of the Palace of Bussaco.
