The company Seiva Trupe, from Porto, with over 50 years of existence, presents the theater play at the Monastery of Batalha We have Mother, We have Marywith text and direction by Castro Guedes.

The approximately 55-minute show, which features performances by João Carlos Soares, Kátia Guedes and Miguel Branca, takes place after 7pm next Sunday, May 12th.

It is, according to Seiva Trupe, am “scenic poem”, in the form of theater and music, about the afflictions and dilemma of Mary, Mother of Jesus, when the AirSaint Gabriel the angel announces to her that she will be the womb that will welcome the Messiah. It was commissioned by the Porto Diocesan Commission (with support from the Cabido Portucalense) as part of World Youth Day, which took place in Lisbon last year.

Between the joy of Grace granted and the premonitions of the laceration of the Son of Man on the Cross, Mary is restless, cries, smiles, exalts herself (in both senses of the word)”, can be read in the press release. It is “the mystery of the Annunciation presented from a perspective in which Mary senses that something is about to happen and is worried, while her husband, Joseph, is also worried about her state of agitation”.

Mary, carnal, “guesses” that her son will end up tragically dead, while, in the revelation of her mission, the Virgin rejoices with the coming of the Messiah and, humbly, with the Grace of carrying him in her Sacred Womb. All this with the presence of Gabriel, the Archangel of the Annunciation, who preferably expresses himself through music (‘the language of God’) in a plastically bold and textually poetic and lyrical show, with moments of despair and others of sublimation”, is mentioned in the text shared by Seiva Trupe.
