Work has already begun to requalify the building of the old Oliveira de Frades Railway Station, which will make way for the Vale Vouga Line Interpretive Center. The municipality announced that the interventions began “recently” and that this is a project that aims to “conserve and enhance material and intangible heritage”.
The objective is to create “a museum space with objects and artefacts, associated with the Vale do Vouga Line and the train, deactivated in the 1990s”, it says in a statement.
In addition to the museum, the Vale Vouga Line Interpretive Center will also house the headquarters of the Oliveira de Frades Senior University and serve as support for the Urban Cycle Path.
The work involves an investment of more than 260 thousand euros and is 80 percent financed by the Agriculture and Fisheries Financing Institute (IFAP), through ADDLAP – Associação de Desenvolvimento Dão Lafões e Alto Paiva.
The project resulted from an application for the Renovation of Villages measure, within the scope of the Community-Based Local Development Program (DLBC) of PDR2020.
