Union of Unions of the Algarve promotes demonstration in Faro on International Workers’ Day

On May 1st – International Workers’ Day – the Union of Unions of the Algarve – USAL/CGTP-IN, promotes a demonstration that leaves from the municipal market of Faro at 10 am, ending on the lawn next to the municipal theater, with a union intervention and a cultural moment in charge of Volta e Meia.

According to USAL, the demonstration will affirm “the rights and values ​​of April, for a Portugal with a future that guarantees a new direction for the country, based on the appreciation of work and workers and the application of the rights inscribed in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic” . The initiative will give “expression to the fair demands of workers, retirees and pensioners”.

For trade unionists, “there is an urgent need for a general and significant increase in salaries; the valorization of careers and professions; the increase in the national minimum wage to 1000 euros, during the year 2024; the repeal of labor legislation standards and the end of the expiry of collective hiring; the reduction of working hours to 35 hours, without loss of pay; the regulation of working hours, including continuous work and shift work; and the guarantee of the right to housing”, reflect in a statement issued to the media.
