Initially, Massis Class, Saylor’s mother, tried to find a solution to the girl’s fear with monster spray.

After watching Pixar’s animated film Monsters, Inc. with her parents, the little girl Saylor Class, three years old, started complaining that there were monsters in his room. At first, her parents didn’t care, because they thought it was just a figment of a child’s fertile imagination.

Saylor complained about “monsters on the wall” room when he was at his family’s farmhouse in Charlottein the state of North Caroline, In the USA. Until a beekeeper discovered tens of thousands of bees in the girl’s room.

Initially, Massis ClassSaylor’s mother, tried to find a solution to the girl’s fear. “We even gave her a bottle of water, and told her it was monster spray, that she could spray to ward off any monsters at night.”told the BBC News.

However, over the next few months, Saylor began to increasingly insist that there was something strange inside her closet. It all started to make sense when Massis Class noticed that bees were gathering near the attic and chimney outside the old farmhouse, built about a century ago.

The mother then deduced that Saylor could be hearing the buzzing of insects near her room. First, she contacted a pest control company, but soon discovered that the bees were a protected species in the US.

The family then turned to a beekeeper, who noticed the insects flying toward the attic floor directly above Saylor’s bedroom. The bees had spent eight months building a huge hive.

“Monster hunter”

Using a thermal camera, the beekeeper examined the walls of the girl’s room. “It lit up like (a) Christmas tree”, describes Massis Class. The beekeeper, whom the girl began to call “monster hunter”stated that he had never seen a hive invade a wall so much.

He found a coin-sized hole in the corner of the attic vent and knocked down the wall, revealing a huge honeycomb. “They started to come out of there like in a horror movie”recalls Massis Class.

The beekeeper removed between 55 thousand and 65 thousand bees, in addition to 45 kg of honeycombs. Three reverse aspiration extractions of the insects were made from the wall to place them in boxes, which were transferred to a bee sanctuary.

Massis Class had to isolate the room with a screen during extractions to prevent the bees from dispersing throughout the house. She reported that the bees and honey damaged the home’s electrical wiring and, according to her, home insurance did not cover the damage, as it considers that problems with pests can be prevented.

She estimates that the bees caused more than US$20,000 (approximately R$102,000) in damage.
