Roadside Attractions has released the trailer for “Firebrand”, the debut by Brazilian Karim Aïnouz (“The Invisible Life”) in English.

Described as a “psychological thriller” by Aïnouz, the film tells the story of how Katherine Parr survived her marriage to the monstrous King Henry VIII, whose brutal behavior is also explored in the plot.

Jude Law (“Captain Marvel”) plays the British king and Alicia Vikander (“Tomb Raider: The Origin”) plays Katherine Parr, the sixth, last and only wife to outlive the monarch. The plot, which is far from romanticizing the royal wedding, is based on Elizabeth Fremantle’s best-selling book, “Queen’s Gambit”. The film’s name was changed to “Firebrand” to avoid confusion with the Netflix series of the same name.

In addition to Vikander and Law, Patsy Ferran (“Jamestown”) as Princess Mary, Junia Rees (“Tell That to the Winter Sea”) as Princess Elizabeth and Simon Russell-Beale (“House of the Dragon”) also star in the cast. ) as Stephen Gardiner.

The film had its world premiere a year ago, at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and will premiere commercially on June 14 in the United States. There is still no forecast for launch in Brazil. Meanwhile, Aïnouz is back in Cannes with a new film, “Motel Destino”, which will compete for this year’s Palme d’Or.
