Journalist and music critic Regis Tadeu gave his opinion on Pearl Jam’s new album in a video that was shared last Wednesday (April 24). According to Regis, “Dark Matter” has a connection with the North American group’s first studio albums, released at the beginning of the distant 1990s.

“It’s an album that exudes a… in a way, even surprising sonic connection with Pearl Jam’s first albums. But what could result in a festival of histrionic and falsely dramatic pastiches, ended up sounding quite reinvigorated for Pearl Jam’s style now in this ‘Dark Matter'”, said Regis, who also spoke about the album’s production, signed by Andrew Watt.

“First, most importantly: we have to thank the beloved producer of big artists, Andrew Watt. He couldn’t flatten and compress Pearl Jam’s sound on this record, like he did on recent albums by Ozzy and the Rolling Stones. Let’s go thank you. The guy didn’t manage to ruin the album. On the contrary, this album sounds very full-bodied and sounds very consistent with what each song asked for.”

When talking about some of the songs on “Dark Matter”, Regis stated that the album’s title track is a kind of mix of two big names in music.

“It’s a heavy track, a more rhythmic track… there’s a mix of Black Sabbath and Joan Jett in this song. Mainly in the guitar riffs, which are a bit dry, a bit biting, plus those drums full of notes from Matt Cameron. Full of notes, but it’s really cool. Pay attention, it’s a bit Black Sabbath, a bit Joan Jett.
