“Police members, with the support of the National Guard, arrested three members of a musical group in a club in Nizhny Novgorod,” the regional police said in a statement.
The three members of the Korrozia Metalla group, aged 57, 19 and 42, are accused of “propaganda or public display of Nazi accessories or symbols”, a crime punishable by a fine or a short period of administrative detention.
According to the police, t-shirts and books “with prohibited symbols” were seized.
In an interview with the state agency TASS, the group’s director, Maria Rounova, said that the symbols in question are “ancient Slavic symbols”.
In images of the concert shared on social media, the police can be seen invading the room during the concert and forcing spectators to lie down on the floor, in some cases in a more muscular way.
The cultural sector in Russia is increasingly under pressure from the authorities, after more than two years of conflict in Ukraine, along with the total repression against dissenting voices.
In December 2022, a party for “nearly naked” guests, organized by Russian celebrities in a Moscow club, sparked a scandal and a criminal investigation, forcing the participants to make a public apology.
