Participating in the show are children David, 18, Mercy, 18, and twins Stella and Estere, 11.
A real war apparatus is being set up for the megashow that Madonna will perform in Copacabana, on May 4th. 3,200 military police were mobilized for the day of the show and the expectation is that the presentation, which will take place at 9:45 pm, will bring together around 1.5 million people. Meanwhile, on stage, the pop diva will bring her Celebration Tour, which, among other surprises, features the participation of some of her children: David, 18, Mercy, also 18, as well as 11-year-old twins, Stella and Estere .
In an interview with W magazine, published on Wednesday (24), Madonna spoke of the pride she feels in being able to count on her children on tour. “I think what my kids have learned most from this year of rehearsals and performances is that if you want to follow your dreams, you’re going to have to work hard for them.”
Madonna also said that even if they choose different paths in the future, they have never forgotten this year, of “blood, sweat and tears”. “As the Celebration Tour is a retrospective of my life, I thought it made perfect sense to include all my children who still live with me in the show; they all dance and play musical instruments, and have been doing so for years”, says the artist.
According to her, David has played guitar since he was a child. Mercy has been playing piano since age 8 and has been classically trained for most of her life. And the twins started playing the piano and dancing too. A memorable moment in the show is when her daughter Mercy accompanies her on the piano during a version of “Bad Girl”. David duets with his mother on “Mother and Father” from his 2003 album “American Life.”
Madonna is also mother to Lourdes “Lola” Leon, 27, from her relationship with Carlos Leon, and Rocco Ritchie, 23, whose father is her ex-husband Guy Ritchie. The older ones have also participated in her tours, including the 2012 MDNA Tour, in which Lourdes worked in the costume department, while Rocco performed on stage.
“It would be boring if they were just traveling from hotel to hotel and occasionally came to watch the show,” he said. “Of course, I’m their mother, so sometimes we get on each other’s nerves. We are a family of artists, but we are also a family and that is what happens.”
