Eloy Casagrande, ex-Sepultura, is confirmed as Slipknot’s new drummer

The metal band Slipknot confirmed, on Tuesday night (30), that Brazilian Eloy Casagrande is the group’s new drummer. The information had already been speculated by fans since the musician announced his sudden departure from Sepultura, in February this year, days before the start of the Brazilian band’s farewell tour.

The announcement was made via social media. “Slipknot officially welcomes Eloy Casagrande,” wrote the North American band’s profile.

Exit took Sepultura by surprise

After Eloy’s departure, the Brazilian band said it was taken by surprise on February 6th, when it received the former member’s decision. “The band was taken by surprise, without prior notice or any kind of debate about how to make the transition. The communication was made by him and he immediately left the band, abandoning everything related to Sepultura”, appears in an excerpt.

On social media, Eloy Casagrande spoke about his departure. The musician said that “decisions needed to be made thinking about new cycles to come”. “Being part of the biggest Brazilian metal band was one of the best and richest experiences of my life. I just thank each and every member and the entire team,” he wrote.

“Maybe for the band’s fans it doesn’t make sense at this moment, but decisions needed to be made thinking about new cycles to come. We are made of choices and they are not always easy. My departure will never erase my respect and gratitude to the band. Fortunately, there is much to come. I hope to continue making a lot of music and art. See you soon on the road!”, added the drummer.
