The entry of Eloy Casagrande for the Slipknot was publicly celebrated by his wife. The plastic surgeon Ariane Garcia published, on his Instagram profile, an emotional text about the musician’s arrival in the American band.

“I mentally rehearsed – for months and so many times – this text that I still have a hard time believing is real. Amidst the hurricane of sensations experienced, the words still seem jumbled and imprecise, but it was time for them to spill over into verse.
We always dream and desire something bigger. It’s difficult to say that there is life without a dream, no matter how small and diverse it may be, it is what keeps us standing, moving forward. Sadly, life is not always fair. Even with such talent and, above all, dedication, not everything we dream of comes true. But it must be said that, without dedication and constancy, there is no luck that can – alone – make a dream come true.
The dream is not new, Eloy introduced me to Slipknot a few years ago when I suggested, in a good-natured way, that one day he would play in Metallica. He immediately said ‘no’, that his greatest desire was to one day be among the masqueraders of Iowa. I confess that the first video scared me slightly, but, little by little, I saw how much the whole spectacle was full of meaning and art.
Regardless of this, Eloy has always continued with great joy and dedication to all the projects he has undertaken, especially Sepultura, with almost 13 years of history and immersion. But, for those who have been following this drummer for a long time, you know that the end of the band could never make him retire his drumsticks. His arms and especially his soul screamed for more.
I’ve told you so many times, but it’s imperative to repeat and repeat. You are art from head to toe. He’s so dedicated and obstinate to what lives there, on the drums, that it’s scary.
And my biggest wish – from the first minute – is that you are free and happy. May it be just the beginning of a story of profound experiences, daily discoveries and lots of fun! May your music reach people from all over. May you continue to inspire as much as you constantly inspire me. You deserve the world and deserve every millimeter of the affection and recognition you have received. You more than deserve this dream.
Alive! May you live through all this! Every note on every stage! I love you and I love walking through life with you. With all the gratitude that exists, for your sin.”
In the comments section, the drummer thanked him for the text. He said:
“I have no words to thank you. I couldn’t do it without you, and I don’t say that out loud. You shared every second and emotion with me. Good and bad feelings. Happiness and despair. I felt as if you were my extension, from which I could seek strength and comfort. So enjoy it, because this moment is ours. I am complete with you, the two of us are much bigger. I love you.”
Official entry
Slipknot confirmed Eloy Casagrande as a new member in two different posts on social media. The first took place discreetly, on April 29th, with a tag on a photo on Instagram. In the same media, on the 30th, the group released an image of just the Brazilian drummer, welcoming him.
Then, it was the Brazilian’s turn to speak out. The drummer published a statement, also on Instagram, to celebrate the achievement.
He said:
“A very emotional moment. Unthinkable until then. There is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. There is only living. We are here as one.
Thank you Slipknot for believing in me. Thank you to all maggots and fans around the world.
See you on the road, my Slipknotos. ‘Here comes more pain’.”
Eloy Casagrande debuts with Slipknot
Eloy Casagrande debuted with Slipknot in an intimate warm-up show on April 25th, at Pappy + Harriet’s bar and restaurant, located in Pioneertown, California, United States. Afterwards, it was presented once and for all to a large audience at the festival Sick New Worldin Las Vegas, on the 27th. The masked men were among the headliners, along with System of a Down.
The next commitments include two shows at American festivals (Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple on May 12th and 19th) and a tour of North America between August and September. In October, the band plays at the Aftershock festival and the two dates of Knotfest Brasil, scheduled for October 19th and 20th, at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo.
In November, the masked men head to Mexico. The following month, it’s Europe and the United Kingdom’s turn, with a tour that runs until the 21st, close to Christmas.
Music chairs
Eloy Casagrande’s departure from his previous band, Sepultura, was announced at the end of last February. The band declared themselves surprised by the decision, communicated internally at the beginning of the month, weeks before starting their farewell tour “Celebrating Life Through Death”. The breakup occurred precisely so that the Brazilian musician could dedicate himself to another project, which was not revealed at the time.
Casagrande’s name had been speculated by Slipknot fans since Jay Weinberg’s dismissal at the end of last year. Interestingly, with his entry, there was a movement to change drummers between three bands. Namely, in three acts:
- First: In November last year, Jay was fired from Slipknot. No clear reason was given by the band in the announcement, just “creative decisions”.
- Second: At the end of February, Eloy Casagrande’s departure was confirmed by Sepultura. The band claims that the Brazilian drummer left “to pursue a career in another project”. Since Weinberg’s dismissal, his name began to be speculated in Slipknot, with the signing being confirmed in April.
- Third: Casagrande’s place in Sepultura was taken by Greyson Nekrutman, drummer for Suicidal Tendencies — who called Weinberg to replace him.
