Rio – The new conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro is conductor Felipe Prazeres, one of the most renowned musicians of his generation. The official premiere will be at the Symphony Concert of the Series Vozes – Evening of French Music, on August 12, at 7pm, with the participation of two soloists: the concert hall of the OSTM cello section, Marcelo Salles, and the career soprano from São Paulo. international, Gabriella Pace.

“We welcome Felipe to our team with joy. The conductor who has performed in concerts at the Theater will add his knowledge to the other members of OSTM and we will certainly offer a work of great excellence to our audience”, celebrates the President of Fundação Teatro Muncipal, Clara Paulino.

The opening of the Opera “Le Roy D’Ys”, by Edouard Lalo, which this year marks the 130th anniversary of his death, will be performed for the first time in Rio de Janeiro, followed by the Cello Concerto N° 1 by Camille Saint-Saëns , which will be in charge of the first cello of the Symphony of the Municipal Theater of Rio, Marcelo Salles.

“The Artistic Board is very happy with the arrival of maestro Felipe Prazeres, a musician of excellence who will contribute enormously to the Municipal Theater and our season!”, says Eric Herrero, TMRJ’s artistic director.

The second part of the program is dedicated to French arias and will feature one of the main Brazilian names in lyrical singing, Gabriella Pace, performing some of the most emblematic arias ever composed of this period, such as “Elle a fui, la tourterelle,” from “Os Contos de Hoffman” (Hoffman’s Tales). ” by Offenbach. The program will also have another celebration: the 180th anniversary of Massenet’s birth with “Adieu notre petite table” from the opera “Manon”, and will close with “Me voilà seule dans la nuit, from the opera “The Pearl Fisherman”, composed by Georges Bizet.

Felipe was part of OSTM for two years as a musician, participating in several artistic productions and in April 2022, he conducted, for the first time, the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipal of Rio de Janeiro. Now, he will command colleagues and make music with friends.

“This moment, for me, is like a musical reunion, because I had the privilege of living intensely within the OSTM, with this group, in 2020 and 2021. I am very happy and honored to assume as the new conductor of the Orchestra, and it is extremely emblematic to be chosen by the musicians themselves! This return as conductor was a gift. We will work hard and I want to contribute so that the Municipal is always the great reference in Rio de Janeiro”, reveals Felipe Prazeres.

It is worth mentioning that the new conductor also serves as conductor and concertmaster of the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra, in addition to being artistic director and co-founder of the Johann Sebastian Rio orchestra, the main chamber orchestra in Rio de Janeiro.

One of the most renowned musicians of his generation, Felipe Prazeres acts as conductor and concertmaster of the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra. He was one of the creators of Academia Juvenil, an educational project run by OPES where he develops music guidance work for about 35 young musicians each year, coming from social projects. From 2014 to 2018, he was assistant conductor to Isaac Karabtchevsky. He is artistic director and co-founder of the Johann Sebastian Rio Orchestra, the main chamber orchestra in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most promising in the country. He also acts as concertmaster of the UFRJ Symphony Orchestra, where he has also conducted concerts since 2013.

As conductor, he led orchestras such as the World Youth Symphony, in Italy, Petrobras Symphony Orchestra, Bahia Symphony Orchestra, UFRJ Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra (OSN-UFF) and Camerata Sesi. He was the first conductor to direct a Mahler symphony with the UFRJ Symphony Orchestra. In 2018 he was at the head of this same orchestra in the Opera “The Magic Flute”, by Mozart. At Johann Sebastian Rio he directs concerts with a repertoire from all eras, but with special attention to baroque music.
