“The Last In Line” (the song) is the theme of a note signed by Mick Wall, published on the Classic Rock magazine website. According to the article, published on March 31, 2024, Dio classified the track that gives its name to his band’s second album as “the perfect classic rock song”.

“It was always better to have the centerpiece of the album ready before recording began. With the song The Last In Line, I knew we had that,” declared the singer-songwriter, who gave more details about the composition of the song that became a of his biggest hits.

“I already had the lyrics. However, the song was largely a band collaboration, as were seven of the album’s nine tracks. Guitarist Vivian Campbell created the beautiful 50-second arpeggio intro, while bassist Jimmy Bain created ‘the monstrous riff'”, added the iconic frontman.
