Former insurance employee Yana Rykhlitska decided she wanted to save lives. With the Russian invasion and the resulting war, she decided to volunteer as a paramedic, part of the 93rd Brigade in Kholodnyi Yar. The volunteer paramedic died in an extraction of Ukrainian fighters in an ambulance that ended up being attacked.

According to the Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda, Tanya Zenart, a friend of Yana, used social networks to share the news about her friend. In a post on the social network Facebook, Zenart explained that hours before the attack that led to the death of the paramedic, they had exchanged messages. A simple “How are they?” referring to those rescued, Yana replied with “for now, fun”. Hours later, the ambulance that was transporting them ended up being attacked.

Finally, in order to honor her friend, Tanya Zenart leaves a last tribute on her Facebook page.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry signaled Rykhlitska’s death via its official Twitter account. “I was carrying out the evacuation of the wounded when the vehicle I was in was bombed. Yana was a true heroine, prepared to risk her life to save others. Eternal memory and glory to our fallen heroes”, it reads.
