Developments are still awaited on a possible 40-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. David Cameron, UK Foreign Minister, announced in the early afternoon that a proposal for an agreement had been presented to Hamas and that he awaited the Palestinian entity’s decision.

“A proposal for a 40-day ceasefire and release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages has been presented to Hamas.”declared David Cameron in the Saudi capital, at the World Economic Forum.

“I hope that Hamas accepts the agreement that is presented this Monday in Egypt and, frankly, all the pressure and eyes of the world must be on them waiting for them to accept the agreement”, continued the British minister, revealing that the “yes” of Hamas will lead to an end to the fighting.

In addition to the agreement, David Cameron said that in the future a Two-State solution should be considered and that those responsible for the October 7th attack must leave Gaza and that the entire terrorist network in the territory will have to be dismantled so that Palestine and Israel live together in peace.

“The Palestinian people must have a political future but Israel’s security must also be guaranteed, and these two elements must occur alongside each other.”

Antony Blinken told journalists that the Israeli proposal is “very generous” and that Hamas’ refusal will only prolong the Israeli offensive indefinitely.Hamas has “serious questions” regarding the agreement

After a new agreement was proposed, a Hamas spokesperson made statements to Al Jazeera explaining that he has serious questions about the agreement proposed by Israel. Osama Hamdan told the media outlet that he wants troops to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and stated that Israel is not conducting the process seriously.

“It is clear that on the Israeli side there is still an insistence on two key issues. They do not want a complete ceasefire and are still not talking seriously about withdrawing troops from the Gaza Strip. In fact, they are still talking about their presence which means they will continue to occupy Gaza,” said Hamdan, who revealed that the group has questions about the new agreement.

“We have serious questions for mediators. If there are positive responses, I think we can move forward.”

Regarding Antony Blinken’s statements that the agreement is “extremely generous”, Osama Hamdan says that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is a clear crime on the part of Israel.

“Stopping attacks against Palestinians is not generous. The attacks in themselves constitute a crime, so when it is a crime, it cannot be declared that this is a generous act on the part of Israel.”concluded Hamdan.
