“Until the end of next summer, the water is guaranteed. After that, it’s not.” Drought worsens in Algarve

-

Most of the national territory is in severe or extreme drought and, if the next hydrological year is the same, water may even run out of taps in the Algarve, as mentioned in TVI/CNN Portugal report.

The alert comes from the president of the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve, António Miguel Pina, who also guarantees that it is necessary to awaken the population to the seriousness of the problem.

Despite the warnings, consumption has increased by 15% and so the situation is getting more complicated with each passing day, which as António Miguel Pina says: “Until the end of next summer, water is guaranteed. Then it is not”.

The drought situation is getting worse and worse. The Algarve only has water for one year if the next rainy season is the same as the last one.

The municipalities meet next week to find solutions and make decisions, which will certainly be more drastic to combat the problem of lack of water.
