Ohe damage resulting from last week’s heavy rains and floods in the state of Rio Grande do Sul continues to be calculated by Brazilian authorities but, to get a sense of the scale of the tragedy, there is nothing better than seeing images captured from Space.
The images in question were shared by NASA on its page on the social network X (formerly Twitter), where it is stated that the Terra and Aqua satellites captured images of the affected area. As you can see below, the images – relating to the days April 20th It is May 6 – were combined to form a GIF that allows a direct comparison of the before and after this flood, with the mud staining the northern area of Lagoa dos Patos in the vicinity of the city of Porto Alegre.
The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul recently announced that, so far, 113 people have died due to these floods and that almost 1.9 million people have been affected by the tragedy.
