Galaxy AI tools will likely roll out to older models, Samsung president and MX business leader TM Roh revealed. The executive stated, in an interview, that the company is considering releasing tools with artificial intelligence (AI) for cell phones older than the Galaxy S23, including the Galaxy S22 line.
For now, there are no guarantees that Galaxy AI will be released for older phones. According to Roh, the more limited hardware is still an important obstacle to be overcome in these devices.

Roh explains that Galaxy AI takes a “hybrid processing” approach to AI tools, some of which happens in the cloud, some of which happens on the device. By adopting this method, the company guarantees agility in less demanding tools for native components, in addition to providing more privacy for the user, saving them from sharing data with the cloud.
However, this strategy restricts the compatibility of Galaxy AI tools to newer cell phones, now built with hardened chipsets for AI processing. Older cell phones are not as powerful to handle this type of task, points out the executive.
To get around this restriction, Samsung would need to relocate data processing to servers, which would require improvements to the service’s infrastructure. Furthermore, expanding Galaxy AI compatibility implies a significant increase in the tool’s user base, thus increasing data flow.
For now, It is impossible to say that Galaxy AI will reach older models, but Roh’s revelation is good news. When the platform was launched, Samsung had made it clear that the functions would be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 lines.
