Phours after the Benfica’s triumph against Casa Pia (0-1), in the fight for the leadership of the I League, Sporting knew how to respond with class, this Sunday, by beating Boavista 6-1, remaining holder of the throne of the Portuguese championship. All this after the European elimination against Atalanta, last Thursday.

Makouta put the team ahead at the start of the match (3′) and the lions’ reaction, after a goal disallowed by Francisco Trincão (6′), arrived at the break, with the equalizer scored by Viktor Gyokeres (45′). ).

Paulinho did the ‘somersault’ (54′) in Alvalade, Gyokeres reached the hattrick with goals in the 68th and 79th minutes (the latter from a penalty), Nuno Santos reached the score (88′) and Paulinho also scored twice (90+6′ ) right at the end, before the stop for selections.

Leo got in badly, but…

Rúben Amorim made a handful of changes, from defense to attack, compared to the Bergamo game, while Ricardo Paiva made three changes, with the checkered players entering the match better.

Three minutes hadn’t even passed in Alvalade and Boavista was already celebrating the first match of the match, when Franco Israel tried to avoid the danger by clearing a ball (into the prohibited zone), where Makouta appeared, full of opportunity, shooting for the bottom of the networks. The move left Alvalade in shock, of course, but encouragement quickly followed with applause and chants to ‘push’ the team to react.

Sporting tried to respond immediately and the thousands of fans present in the stands even shouted a goal in the sixth minute of the match, however, Francisco Trincão’s great goal was quickly canceled by the assistant referee, due to an offside by… Paulinho.

The opportunities multiplied in Alvalade, near João Gonçalves’ goal. Paulinho, Viktor Gyokeres (in a double dose), Morita and Francisco Trincão tried their luck throughout the first half, until the (much desired) goal arrived on the brink of half-time. In the 45th minute, Paulinho combined well with Gyokeres and the Swedish striker drove the fans crazy with the equalizer.

From ‘Paulão’ to the Nordic hattrick

Rúben Amorim decided to change at half-time and sent Daniel Bragança to replace Morten Hjulmand, maintaining the green and white’s dominance on the field against a more defensive team (albeit somewhat ‘daring’ in the attack).

Shortly after Coates and Diomande, in the same move, failed to come back, Paulinho appeared to be the protagonist of the ‘somersault’ in the match. In the 54th minute, Geny Catamo worked well on the right flank and assisted the experienced striker, who stretched out to make it 2-1.

Sporting didn’t take their foot off the accelerator and went in search of third. Roughly midway through the second half, Viktor Gyokeres took advantage of Nuno Santos’ pass and shot, full of intention, into the back of the net, reassuring the team coached by Rúben Amorim.

But it didn’t stop there. The Swedish forward took charge of a penalty, in the 79th minute, due to a ‘grab’ by Seba Pérez in the penalty area (entitled to VAR intervention and consequent communication from the referee to the public), even signing a hattrick, with more a famous ‘mask’ during the festivities.

In the final moments, Nuno Santos scored the fifth goal, in the 88th minute, after a pass from Gyokeres, with the last reason for celebration being ‘reserved’ for Paulinho’s double (90+6′), with a header, to close the match. match with the final 6-1.

With this result, Sporting is leader of the I League, with 65 points, one more compared to Benfica, and still has a game to spare. Boavista remains in 10th place, with 28 points.
