Roger Schmidt, Benfica’s German coach, could become Besiktas’ new coach for next season.
Roger Schmidt is one of the preferred names to take over as Besiktas coach. According to the Turkish press, the president of the Istanbul club, Hasan Arat, entered into talks with Benfica’s current coach, so that the same direction can be taken for the club in 2024/25.
Roger Schmidt arrived at Estádio da Luz in 2022/23, but has been highly contested this season, with some fans calling for his departure. The German is 57 years old and has played 53 games in 2023/24, with 35 wins. His contract with the Luz team is valid until 2026.
