prosecutor Rosário Teixeira said that, since 2012, the president of FC Porto, his son, Alexandre Pinto da Costa, and businessman Pedro Pinho “developed a scheme designed to generate undue profits”. The three defendants are suspected of having set up a scheme to embezzle money from FC Porto, based on the transfer of several players.
“In order to place players at FC Porto or sell FC Porto players, agents agree to return to sports directors of the same club, namely Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, part of the amounts charged for their intervention as intermediaries in these deals”can be read in the order.
The investigation and resulting controversy were one of the reasons why Pinto da Costa cut ties with his son Alexandre about a year ago, as The Mag revealed firsthand.

Accused of a lack of transparency, speculation about abusive management of FC Porto’s accounts has long hovered over Pinto da Costa, but publicly, the director always opted for his usual irony when questioned about the matter.
In one of the last major interviews he gave to ‘Expresso’, in 2010, he was asked about the fact that he had received 700 thousand euros in wages from SAD and whether, therefore, he considered himself a well-paid person. Faced with the question, he skirted the issue.
“I have no idea if that’s true. Honestly. I know that I pay crazy taxes. This year, I’m going to have to pay 70 thousand euros – and I don’t have money in the bank to pay it, but I’ll pay it, because I don’t want to news saying that the president of FC Porto escapes the tax authorities. And I know that I certainly pay more taxes than Gato Fedorento, who, I read, in the contract with PT received more than two million euros in one year. half of that”.
When asked afterwards whether he knew exactly how much money he had in the bank, Pinto da Costa would be peremptory. “I always have little.”
