SPORTING CHAMPION WITH AMORIM DOES SELF-REFLECTION AND ADMITS: “IT WAS MY WORST SEASON”

-

Tiago Tomás admitted that his season at Wolfsburg was a disappointment. The ex Sporting says that physical problems and the death of his grandmother contributed to a lower performance season for the Portuguese under-21 international.

“It was once again a season in which we ended up fighting for maintenance, our only real objective at the moment… obviously it was a disappointment for all of us because those weren’t the expectations at the start of the season, but it was the situation we put ourselves in. It’s still not mathematically safe”, he began by saying, in an interview with DAZN.

“On a personal level, I would even say it was my worst season. There was a lot of instability, for me too, on and off the field, I had some problems this year, my grandmother passed away at the beginning of the year and then I was injured the following week, I broke my arm, so I had a slightly more difficult time. It was a little bit of a bad season, but I always try to stay positive.”

Tiago Tomás says he continues to speak to players on the squad: “I keep in touch with several. I have almost daily contact with Eduardo Quaresma, but also with BowlO Daniel Bragança and Gonçalo Inácio. I’m very happy for them.”

“Quaresma, I know he had two very difficult years, but he managed to turn it around. Above all, when he had the opportunity, he managed to demonstrate his quality, which is not easy. You have to give a lot of credit to what he did in that game [frente ao Porto], he had not played for two years, he had barely played at Sporting. For me he was the man of the match. It gave him a click to face the rest of the season. You see a very different player on the field in terms of maturity. I’m very happy for him, may he continue like this.”

From lion to chest, Tiago Tomás He played 66 games, with nine goals and four assists. The forward was part of Rúben Amorim’s squad that won the National Championship (2020/21), the Super Cup (2022) and two League Cups (2020/21 and 2021/22).
