An inmate at the Coimbra Prison Establishment is accused of receiving cocaine in postal parcels sent through CTT. The drug was concealed in items of clothing and then sold to other prisoners. To avoid detection, the defendant, aged 37, instructed his partner, aged 34, to ask a friend to send the orders and address them to another inmate. The indictment states that these two defendants hired by the couple received money to send and receive cocaine orders. The product was then delivered to the main defendant, who is serving seven years and two months in prison for theft, to sell in prison.
The investigation carried out by the Center’s Judicial Police detected four orders containing cocaine sent in 2021 by the 65-year-old defendant. On one of the occasions, the two women were monitored near a CTT store in Viseu. The main suspect’s companion remained outside while the older woman sent the order to the other inmate. When opened in the jail, cocaine was found hidden in the lining of a vest.
