Ricardo Esgaio considers leaving Sporting and is open to proposals – I Liga

Last Sunday Ricardo Esgaio fulfilled a childhood dream, becoming national champion with Sporting, which was his training club. Having achieved this goal, the right-back is now considering a change of scenery since, at the age of 30, he may have the last opportunity to sign a big contract.

The Portuguese player has a contract until 2026 but, according to O JOGO, he will be available to listen to proposals at this time, preferably if they come from the Middle East. Esgaio has always been one of the players most criticized by fans, who lately seem to have found peace in their relationship with the player, but change is a very likely scenario.

Even excluding the previous issues, the surprise statement by Geny Catamo, who is expected to have even more minutes in 2024/25, and the confidence in Iván Fresneda’s growth promise to relegate Ricardo Esgaio to a more secondary level, although he is one of the strong men by Ruben Amorim.

It was the Portuguese coach who gave him a second opportunity at Sporting, having played 126 games in his three seasons at Alvalade, in which he scored one goal and made 14 assists. It may be the right time for Esgaio to move on, but if he decides to continue he will certainly have Amorim’s blessing.
