Dortmund will make more money if… loses the Champions League final

-

O Borussia Dortmund is experiencing a moment of great euphoria after securing their presence in the Champions League final. The German team will face Real Madrid at Wembley, on June 1st, but they already know that the monetary prize will be higher if… they lose.

As explained by the Germans of BILD, this Friday, the ‘culprit’ is just one: Jude Bellingham. The England international was transferred from Dortmund to Madrid last summer and the German club continues to receive dividends due to his achievements at the Bernabéu.

If Real Madrid wins the Champions League final, Dortmund will leave England with 25 million euros, an amount stated in the contract between the two clubs signed at the time of Bellingham’s transfer, and will also be entitled to receive an amount of 15 million euros from UEFA for being a losing finalist. We are therefore talking about a total of 40 million euros.

On the other hand, if they win the Champions League final, the German team will be entitled to a prize of 20 million euros from UEFA, but will not receive any payment compared to Bellingham.

All things considered, this is a difference of 20 million euros that will be at stake for Dortmund in the grand final of the Champions League. Still, it’s worth remembering that the status of European champion is worth much more than that.
