Desportivo de Chaves has a high-risk game today at the opening of the penultimate round of the I Football League, in which they could see their relegation completed, if they do not win against Famalicão (20:15).

Against an opponent who is in eighth place, only a victory avoids this immediate relegation, in a scenario in which the Trás-os-Montes can only hope to finish in 16th place, with access to the maintenance play-off, but, even so, depending on the Portimonense, who currently occupies this position and has five more points.

The Algarve team only enters the field on Saturday, in a game in which they host Rio Ave (15:30), and even with a draw they will always be ahead of Desportivo de Chaves, against whom they have an advantage in direct confrontation, with two victories.

The scenario is, therefore, very complicated for the Flavienses, who practically need a ‘miracle’ to remain in the I League, a division to which they had risen again two seasons ago.

With the champion defined, Sporting, and second place, Benfica, the 33rd round ‘contributes’ to the relegation calculations – with Vizela already relegated -, in a fight that also includes Gil Vicente, Estoril Praia, Boavista and Estrela from Amadora, but these are safe from a direct descent.

More calculations to be done over the weekend involve the European fight, between FC Porto and Sporting de Braga for third place, while Vitória de Guimarães is fifth, but could even reach fourth and when it is five points behind Braga, who play in home to Vimaranenses on Saturday and host FC Porto in the 34th round.

Third and fourth places give access to the Europa League and fifth to the Europa Conference League.

Program for the 33rd round:

– Friday, May 10:

Desportivo de Chaves – Famalicão, 20:15

– Saturday, May 11:

Vizela – Estrela da Amadora, 15:30

Portimonense – Rio Ave, 15:30

Estoril Praia – Sporting, 18:00

Vitória de Guimarães – Sporting de Braga, 20:30

– Sunday, May 12:

Gil Vicente – Farense, 15:30

Casa Pia – Moreirense, 18:00

Benfica – Arouca, 18:00

FC Porto – Boavista, 20:30
