Lions and central sign new contract with increased seasons, salary and termination clause; the first of a new wave of renovations

Renewal closed: Eduardo Quaresma signs a new contract with Sporting until 2029 and will be a strong bet for Rúben Amorim. As A BOLA said, the agreement for the extension of the 22-year-old central defender was agreed and is now signed and, based on the data collected, until 2029 and not just until 2028 as was said. Award for a defender who established himself at a time when a new loan was being considered, which, at the very least, would postpone the renewal of the contract, which was valid until 2025.

Quaresma was one of the young people that Rúben Amorim promoted in 2020, when he arrived in Alvalade and laid the foundations for the lion that would become national champion. In that title-winning year, the young defender contributed only two games, plus one in the League Cup, and ended up being loaned to Tondela and Hoffenheim in the following two seasons.

At the beginning of 2023/2024 he was chosen to stay in the squad but it was only from mid-December, after surprisingly starting in the classic with FC Porto (2-0), that he asserted himself, avoided another loan and due to lack of After three games at the end of the season, he has already recorded 29 appearances and one goal scored. The extension of the contract is a reward in a season of affirmation.

The gentlemen who follow

Eduardo Quaresma’s renewal will be officially announced in the next few days and inaugurates a wave of new contracts that will take shape during the closed season/pre-season. In defense, Sebastián Coates stays for another year in Alvalade – the Uruguayan central defender ended his contract at the end of the season but has a guaranteed place in the new season, an announcement that should take shape before the defender goes on vacation, after the Portuguese Cup final.

Still in the most backward sector, Ousmane Diomande, one of the most coveted lions on the market, also has renewal on the cards, unless he leaves early. He has a clause of 80 million euros, but a proposal of 50/60 million opens the door for him to leave Alvalade. Newcastle is one of the strongest suitors.

In midfield, renewal is reserved for Hidemasa Morita. The Japanese player ends his contract in 2026 and although the process is at an impasse, he should gain form after the holidays. The salary he receives is at an intermediate level of what is practiced in Alvalade, around 500 thousand euros per season, and will be increased to a level closer to 800 thousand euros. The termination clause will go from 45 to 60 million.

At the front, after Geny Catamo renewed in December, Edwards follows. But also English conditioned to the market, through some proposal that comes before.

Remember that the previous wave of renewals took place at the Alvalade club last summer, with Luís Neto and Daniel Bragança first. And with Pedro Gonçalves, Nuno Santos and Gonçalo Inácio later, in August, extending their ties with the green and whites at a time when the championship that already won a new national title was in its first rounds.

Debast coming… St. Juste in PSV’s sights

Eduardo Quaresma’s renewal coincides with the signing of Zeno Debast, a 20-year-old central defender who the Lions have secured for next season – Sporting has come closer to the conditions required by Anderlecht, in a financial operation that will cost the Lions’ coffers an amount that will cost between 16 and 18 million euros, the defender will sign for five seasons, that is, until 2029, and will have a clause of 80 million euros.

Central defender will be Rúben Amorim’s first reinforcement in 2024/2025; Contract valid for five seasons; Financial operation in the order of €16 to €18 million

The Belgian, despite being able to occupy any position in the defensive trio and even in the deepest midfield, preferably plays on the right, where Quaresma also plays.

Also there is St. Juste, a Dutchman who, however, could head elsewhere, as PSV Heindhoven continues to closely follow the central defender who in 2022 arrived from Mainz in exchange for 10 million euros.
