Mauro Júnior had already been requested by Schmidt two years ago, but it was very expensive; Brazilian ends contract in 2025; was a starter in the German’s two years in Eindhoven

The Dutch press reports that Benfica will be interested in signing Mauro Júnior, a 25-year-old Brazilian left-back from PSV who ends his contract with the Dutch champions in 2025.

According to the local newspaper Eindhovens Dagbladthe player was requested by Roger Schmidt in 2022, when the German coach signed for the Eagles.

At the time, the price of the pass was considered too high, but the fact that the contract with the Dutch team ends in a year’s time could lead PSV to lower the value and, according to that publication, the club is available to negotiate.

The footballer is valued at €7 million by the platform transfermarktbut the local press considers that the deal can be done for less so that there is no risk of leaving at zero cost in a year’s time.

From what A BOLA found, however, the player is not part of the list of reinforcements for next season.

Mauro Júnior has been at PSV since 2017. He arrived in the Netherlands at a junior age, coming from Desportivo Brasil, having started in the club’s B team and with a loan to Héracles in between. He has played 123 games in total for the Eindhoven team, but he was not the absolute starter this season, as he only played 19 games (14 in the Eredivisie, 3 in the Champions League, 2 in the Dutch Cup, 1 goal scored).

Part of the explanation for his lower usage is due to a serious knee injury that kept him out of the competition between March and November 2023, having missed the end of last season, the pre-season and the first third of the season about to end. Mauro Júnior was the starter at PSV in the two years that Schmidt managed the team.
