Cell phones, fixed internet, pay television and video streaming are part of the electronic trousseau that we bring to our marriage with the virtual world of the 21st century. The Portuguese do not seem to be able to live without them, as suggested by the survey carried out by DECO PROteste with similar consumer organizations in Belgium, Spain and Italy, which measured satisfaction with telecommunications service providers. In total, 66,684 valid responses were gathered in two rounds of the survey, one in 2023 and the other in 2024, 13,790 generated by Portuguese participants. The results reflect your opinions and experiences.
More data on your cell phone and faster internet
Not only can we not live without telecommunications, we also want more data and speed. In 2023, only 37% had at least 10 GB of data on their cell phone, while today the proportion is half.
There are even more fans of fast fixed net. 55% of respondents have a minimum of 200 Mbps at home, compared to 49% last year.
Video streaming is very popular
These increased needs should not be unrelated to the popularity of video streaming and pay television services. For example, through an app on mobile devices or on the television’s smartTV platform, or even via an internet browser, they allow you to enjoy content without religiously following the channel’s program schedule. The size of the popularity? The 13,790 respondents correspond to 19,136 pay television or video streaming services.
On the other hand, the landline telephone is a virtually obsolete object. There are still those who say it is important – one in ten respondents. But the truth is just one: around half use it less than once a month.
