In recent months, the excitement surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 has been… Well… Something out of the ordinary! In what should be a console finally capable of opening the horizons for the old Japanese giant, by allowing the arrival (ports) of more casual games, which tend to be immensely successful on consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and of course, on the PC.

A good example of this would be in games like Call of Duty, Hogwarts Legacy, Fortnite, etc… However, if you were hoping to find a PS5 or Xbox Series

Yes, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a more powerful console, and therefore significantly more capable. However, Nintendo’s focus continues to be on producing a console that is simple, cheap, and easy to develop.

Nintendo Switch 2: It will be an upgrade… Slight!

Therefore, according to several recent rumors and leaks, the Nintendo Switch 2 will not be the revolution that many would expect after Valve’s investment in Steam Deck, and the investment of other manufacturers in the world of computers in their own consoles, as was the case with ASUS ( ROG Ally) and Lenovo (Legion Go).

The Nintendo Switch 2 will, after all, be a conservative hardware evolution compared to the original model!

This information comes to the Internet through Chinese manufacturer Mobapad, which was able to reveal some additional information about Nintendo’s next console.

More specifically, the console will continue to support the current Pro and Joy-Con controllers, as well as the HD rumble (ALPS dual-axis linear motor). However, the size of the new Joy-Con motor will be smaller. However, although the current Joy-Con are compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, it will not be possible to connect them to the console in portable mode (dock them) due to a new horizontal magnetic docking system.

Regarding backwards compatibility, Mobapad also revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be fully compatible with the physical and digital versions of the original Switch games.

In addition, the new console will also maintain the USB-C port, which will be compatible with a new generation of docks with small design improvements, such as a metal support for better angle adjustments.

However, as has been said in the past, the console’s screen will be slightly larger than that of the original console and will support a resolution of 1080p. (There will be LCD and OLED versions).

According to the same source, the Nintendo Switch 2 is essentially a Pro version of the current console. It is not at all a technical or design revolution. Still, thanks to support for new NVIDIA hardware, it is expected that studios will be able to do much more, compared to the current model.

The Nintendo Switch 2 should be announced in 2024, with prices between €400 and €500, depending on the desired model.
