Apparently, Android owners using Chrome have cause for concern. Apparently, there has been a form of hacking that can reach your bank account and, consequently, withdraw money from there.

The bug in question is called Brokewell and can be mistaken as a supposed app update. Once downloaded, malicious agents have access to your entire cell phone, including bank accounts.

The virus is very similar to the original Chrome updates

Spotting the differences can be a difficult task. At least that’s what the screenshots obtained by ThreatFabric below demonstrate.

For this reason, Android users are recommended to be particularly careful with the updates they make. In practice, it is known that the Brokewell bug uses an overlay attack methodology.

What does this mean in practice? As the name suggests, malware agents overlay a fake screen on a supposedly trustworthy application. This allows hackers to obtain confidential access information. After that, undue control opens up countless possibilities.

To attack different devices, hackers can do it remotely. Among these, malware agents can, for example, click on any point on the screen.

What is most worrying about this type of malware is that Brokewell may not be immediately detectable. While some dubious apps immediately raise the suspicion of being unreliable, this is not the case with Brokwell.

On the contrary, this is a perfectly legitimate and safe update for users. This means that many users end up making updates, without thinking that it could be a nefarious agent.

Therefore, the border between what is a virus and what is reliable is becoming increasingly difficult to identify. For this reason, it is recommended that you pay extra attention whenever a device update takes place.
