Google Wallet, or Google Wallet, was the company’s first payment solution on Android smartphones and watches, allowing you to quickly make payments via NFC and store passes and tickets. At first, adherence was not very quick. Now several people use this system even to enter football stadiums and other events. However, if you do and have an old smartphone, be very careful, as Google Wallet will end up on some Android devices.

Google Wallet will end up on some Android devices!

9to5Google has discovered an official support page that reveals that Google Wallet will require Android 9 Pie or higher on Android. Additionally, Wallet on smartwatches will require Wear OS 2.x or later. This new requirement comes into force from June 10, 2024.

“To help keep Wallet features more secure, like tap-to-pay transactions, we need to be able to push security updates to your device. Security updates are not available for Android versions lower than 9, the company explained on its page. I remember that Google previously listed Android 7.0 Nougat from 2016 as the minimum requirement for Wallet.

The good news is that the new requirement isn’t exactly strict, as Android 9 Pie was released in 2018. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 families, the HUAWEI P10 range and the original Google Pixel range have received an update to the Pie. So you can continue using one of these smartphones if you’re not ready to upgrade yet.

It’s also worth noting that there are many older watches that still run Wear OS 2.x, so there’s no need to upgrade to a Wear OS 3.0 or Wear OS 4.0 wearable if you’re still happy with your current smartwatch.
