Young actress Rhaenyra Targaryen leaves the Game of Thrones spin-off after five episodes.

House of the Dragon it’s a success in its own right, but there’s no denying that the highlight of the Game of Thrones spin-off was Milly Alcock, who plays young Rhaenyra Targaryen. At the age of 22 and in her first international production, the Australian actress surprised both critics and audiences with her performance in the first half of the series – and now says goodbye to the character so that Emma D’Arcy takes on her in her adult phase.

In conversation with the magazine Nylon, Milly commented on the recurring comparisons between her and her successor, explaining that this audience behavior reproduces the culture of hate for women seen in House of the Dragon. She mentioned Rhaenyra’s friendship with Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey/Olivia Cooke), which is completely shaken by the conservative world they both live in.

“House of the Dragon sheds light on patriarchy and misogyny, but also the internalized misogyny these two women are forced to deal with,” analyzed Milly. “They are forced to oppose each other by the choices of men.”

“What I found really hilarious is that the fans also put the actresses in competition and decide who is the best. Another trial made mostly by men. It’s very ironic,” she said.

As it is the first time that she participates in a project of such magnitude, the actress was quite frank in assessing the consequences of fame: “It’s like a part-time job. I try not to follow [as redes sociais] and not getting involved in it because it doesn’t add anything to me, it just makes me incredibly anxious.”

“Seeing my face constantly is exhausting. Nobody should have to go through this. It sucks,” Milly continued. “I don’t know how personalities all over the world can handle this. It drives me crazy. It’s an incredibly difficult space to navigate.”

Milly hasn’t signed a new deal yet, but she wants to find a movie or series with less exposure. “I want to do something completely different from House of the Dragon. I don’t want to get into another big franchise. I want to do something intimate and personal,” she added, using as an example Paul Mescal’s character in Normal People.

It is worth remembering that every Sunday, at 10 pm, a new episode of House of the Dragon arrives on the HBO channel and the HBO Max catalogue. There are 10 in total in season 1.
