Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 21, 1960, to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer, he was described as an energetic and happy child until he was 4 years old, when surgery to correct a double hernia seemed to change him. After that, he was visibly overwhelmed and, in his early teens, was always quite uptight and largely friendless. He grew up listening to his parents’ fights, so at age 14, he started drinking and dabbled in alcohol.

Jeffrey’s interest in dead things was manifested early on. He saw his father removing animal bones from under his family’s home at the age of four and was always thrilled to hear the sounds they made. He initially collected large insects in pots, but later, during his teens, he began collecting animal carcasses by the side of the road. When Jeffrey hit puberty, he realized he was gay but kept it to himself. And then, he started fantasizing about a relationship where he completely controlled his partner. These gradually intertwined with dissection.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s First Victim

When Jeffrey was about 16 years old, he thought of a fantasy in which he played a male runner who he found attractive unconsciously and then made use of his body. So, to make up for that, he hid in the bushes with a baseball bat and waited for him. However, on that particular day, the runner did not show up. Jeffrey later confessed that this was the first time he ever tried to attack and assault someone. The runner, by chance, for some reason, was unable to follow his usual routine that day and was saved, but Jeffrey’s next victim was not so lucky.

Jeffrey committed his first murder on June 18, 1978, three weeks after graduating from high school. At that time, he was living alone in his family’s home in Bath, Ohio, following his parents’ divorce. That day, he caught a hitchhiker named Steven Mark Hicks, who was almost 19 years old. Steven was hitchhiking to a rock concert at Lockwood Corners, but when Jeffrey offered to go to his house to drink alcohol together, he agreed. After a while, Steven wanted to leave, and Jeffrey didn’t want him to leave. So while he was sitting on a chair, Jeffrey hit the back of his head twice with a 10-pound dumbbell.

As he fell forward, unconscious, Jeffrey strangled him to death with the dumbbell bar. Then, he stripped Steven of his clothes and masturbated over the corpse. It was the next day that Jeffrey dissected her body in his basement, the remains of which he buried in a shallow grave he dug in the backyard. Several weeks later, Jeffrey dug up these remains and separated the flesh from the bones. He dissolved the skin in acid before flushing it down the toilet and crushing the bones, which he then scattered in the woods behind his house.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s Next Four Victims

9 years later, on November 20, 1987, Jeffrey – while living with his grandmother in Milwaukee – found Steven Tuomi, a 25-year-old from Ontonagon, Michigan, in a bar. He convinced him to spend the night with him at the Ambassador Hotel, where he had rented a room for the night. Jeffrey had just planned to drug and rape Steven while he was unconscious beneath him, but ended up killing him as well. This time, however, when he woke up, he didn’t remember the events of the night before or the murder. Jeffrey bought a large suitcase to transport the corpse to his grandmother’s house, where he dismembered Steven and masturbated with the remains, keeping and using the skull for at least a few weeks.

After Steven’s murder, Jeffrey began actively looking for victims, who he would usually find in gay bars or on the streets. So he would normally lure them to his grandmother’s house, where he drugged them with alcohol mixed with sleeping pills and then strangled them to death. After that, he engaged in all sorts of sexual activity with the corpses. Two months after Steven, Jeffrey killed a 14-year-old Native American prostitute named James Doxtator; whom he lured to his grandmother’s house with an offer of $50 to pose for nude photos. Then, on March 24, 1988, Jeffrey met and murdered a 22-year-old bisexual man named Richard Guerrero. This time, Jeffrey managed to do it only by offering her money, $50, to spend the night with him.

In September 1988, Jeffrey was arrested for drugging and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy, whom he had lured with on the pretense of posing nude for pictures. Early the following year, he was convicted of second-degree sexual assault and of seducing a child for immoral purposes. Two months later, on March 25, 1989, Jeffrey took the life of his fifth victim, a 24-year-old aspiring model named Anthony Sears. With Anthony, Jeffrey took it a step further – after murder and beheading, he kept and permanently preserved his head and genitals in acetone.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s Last 12 Victims

Over the next two years, Jeffrey’s victim count only increased, bringing him to the grand total of 17. He also developed rituals as he progressed – experimenting with chemicals to permanently discard or retain parts of his victim’s body, or take pictures of them as he committed the murder and dismembered their bodies. In addition to masturbating or engaging in other necrophilic acts with the corpses, Jeffrey Dahmer even began eating his victims. Sometimes Jeffrey would drill holes in their skulls while they were still alive to inject them with hydrochloric acid. The acid insertion was in hopes of getting a permanently submissive partner.

In May 1990, Jeffrey took the life of a 32-year-old male prostitute named Raymond Smith. Then, a month later, he attracted a 27-year-old acquaintance named Edward Smith to your apartment. He tried to freeze Edward’s skull, but it didn’t work, and he couldn’t retain any part of it. Less than three months after that, Jeffrey got a 22-year-old Chicago native named Ernest Miller home for, again, only $50. Jeffrey didn’t strangle Ernest, however, he cut his neck until he bled to death within minutes. And a week later, on September 24, Jeffrey took the life of David Thomas, another 22-year-old. He saved the two skulls.

Over the next five months, Jeffrey did not kill again, but unsuccessfully tried several times to lure young men into his home. It was in February 1991 that he struck again, with the murder of Curtis Straaughter, 17, whom he had seen at a bus stop. Jeffrey kept his skull, hands and genitals, and photographed each stage of the dismemberment process. On April 7, he took the life of his eleventh victim, Errol Lindsey, 19 years old. After Errol, they were Tony Hughes31 years old, and Konerak Sinthasomphone, 14 years old. Konerak was the younger brother of the man Jeffrey was convicted of assaulting in 1989.

After all this, Jeffrey went to Chicago, where he took the lives of his last four victims: Matt Turner20 years old, on June 30, Jeremiah Weinbergerof the 23rd, on the 5th of July, Oliver Lacyof the 24th, on the 15th of July, and Joseph Bradehoft, 25 years old on July 19. It was on July 22, 1991, when Jeffrey tried to take his eighteenth victim, Tracy Edwards, 32-year-old, that he was caught and imprisoned. After a bit of a struggle, Tracy managed to get away and find two police officers. He called for help and took them to Jeffrey’s apartment, thus ending the serial killer’s crime spree.

How many victims did Dahmer eat?

As we speak, Jeffrey first killed on June 18, 1978, when he beat and strangled 18-year-old Steven Mark Hicks at his parents’ home in Ohio. Likewise, his latest victim was 25-year-old Joseph Arthur Bradehoft, whom he strangled in his Milwaukee apartment on July 19, 1991. Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey was reported to have killed at least 17 men and boys in the states of Ohio and Wisconsin. Unfortunately, it is unclear how many of his victims he consumed, as he never spoke about his cannibalistic habit in detail.

However, we do know that the prolific serial killer preferred to decapitate and dismember his victims before preserving their skulls and body parts. Some accounts claim that Jeffrey consumed one body part or another from all seventeen of his victims. However, this assumption is debatable and should be taken as a rumor, as we know he dismembered his first victim before dissolving his flesh in acid and pulverizing his bones. Despite the fact that he discarded all of his previous victims, Jeffrey didn’t start collecting body parts until he murdered 22-year-old Richard Guerrero on March 24, 1988.

When it came to Guerrero, Jeffrey followed his usual modus operandi of dissolving meat in acid, but this time he saved the skull, cleaned it, and put it away in his macabre collection. However, there is nothing to indicate that he consumed the 22-year-old. Jeffrey’s next victim, Anthony Lee Sears, who died on March 25, 1989, was the first victim with a body part permanently stored in his collection. After the serial killer’s arrest in 1991, police found Anthony’s skull and genitals preserved in his Milwaukee apartment.

After killing Anthony, Jeffrey moved into his apartment at 924 North 25th Street, Milwaukee, after which he began to exploit his cannibalistic instincts. The serial killer never spoke about his cannibalism explicitly, but did mention that he began storing and eating body parts from his later victims and that he only consumed human flesh when he felt like it. Furthermore, Jeffrey allegedly only consumed meat from his victim’s heart, biceps and thighs and even mentioned how the biceps tasted like beef.
