“I got a call from a sister talking about one of our pastors who just passed away. For me it was a very big impact, because this morning I led the service and he was with his wife in the front pew. He committed that terrible crime. with Daniella Perez, he was arrested, served his sentence and converted. He was inside the house, fell and died. He just died”, said the pastor.
Born in Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, Guilherme de Pádua moved to Rio de Janeiro to try his hand at an artistic career.
He made small appearances on TV until he was charged in the soap opera “De Corpo e Alma” as the bus driver Bira. He was 23 years old when he killed Daniella Perez.

In December 1992, at the age of 22, actress Daniella Perez was stabbed to death by Guilherme de Pádua and his wife, Paula Thomaz, in Rio de Janeiro.
Daniella and Guilherme acted in De Corpo e Alma, TV Globo’s eight o’clock soap opera.
The motivation for the crime was professional, as Guilherme had “lost space” in the soap opera, and Paula’s jealousy towards the actress.
Five years after the crime, Guilherme de Padua was sentenced to 19 years in prison and remained in jail for only seven, as he received parole. He and Paula Thomaz broke up.
Brutal Pact
The case had a lot of repercussion this year with the launch of the series Brutal Pactfrom HBO Max.
The production, which premiered on July 21, is divided into five chapters and brings details of the crime.
Documentarians Tatiana Issa and Guto Barra give voice to Gloria Perezauthor of novels and mother of Daniella, and to family members never properly heard before.
In more than one moment, Glória Perez shows the discomfort that persists with the portrayal of the case in the media, causing confusion between soap operas and real life.
On the day of the crime, Daniella and Guilherme recorded a breakup scene. Throughout interviews, the novelist talks about how she feels the case has turned into a “cheap soap opera”.
“This was the main concern from the beginning”, says director Guto Barra, about the desire to remove that “feuilleton” air from the case.
“It’s hard to fight an image. There was a single photo of the two characters of Daniella Perez and Guilherme de Padua in a romantic scene. And this photo was replicated on magazine covers. romantic position. You can imagine that it’s not the characters, but people. It was something very hard and, to this day, it’s very hard to see this confusion between characters and people. We hope that Brutal Pact will help change this narrative”.
