American singer’s cousin found dead Becky G in Rio de Janeiro. Gabriel Martinez he came to the city to spend the carnival and had been missing for days. The disappearance motivated a social media campaign to try to locate him.
Confirmation of death was made this Friday (3), by the United States Consulatebut, according to the Civil Police, Gabriel’s body was found on the 26th of February.
According to witnesses heard by the police, he would have died after a accident during a climb on Morro da Urca, in the South Zone of Rio. The consulate also confirms the version of the accident.
“According to the Whereabouts Discovery Police Station (DDPA)), the case was registered, on Thursday (02), at the police unit. The agents found that the body of Gabriel Martinez Franco was found on February 26 and sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) Afrânio Peixoto, in downtown Rio, where he was identified. Witnesses communicated the fact to military police and said that he died after falling while climbing Morro da Urca, in the South Zone of Rio”, he reported.
The American consulate also mourned the boy’s death.
“The US Embassy and Consulates are dismayed by the news of the US citizen who died in a tragic accident in Rio de Janeiro, and we thank Brazilian authorities for their efforts in the search. We offer our most sincere condolences to the family for their loss,” inform the note.
Searches had support from Anitta
The search for Gabriel Martinez began on March 1, when four days had passed without him making contact with his family. A cousin of the boy resorted to social networks to ask for help, and said that he would make an itinerary Brazil, Colombia and Peru.
In another post, relatives reported that they were distressed because Gabriel’s cell phone only turned off.
Sérgio even reposted his cousin’s last interaction on the networks, showing the young man’s travel plans and his desire to see the world.
The post had an effect on cousin Becky G’s fan club, and Brazilian fans also contacted singer Anitta, asking her to help with the location with her knowledge in Brazil.
