Antônio Lucas Nascimento Pereira’s family is asking for help to bring the 20-year-old’s body to Brazil. Born in Volta Redonda (RJ), Antônio died in a traffic accident on Thursday (9) in Portugal.
The young man was on a bicycle when he was hit by a taxi in Boliqueime, in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. He couldn’t resist his injuries and died still at the scene. According to the Portuguese newspaper “JN”, the taxi driver fled without providing help, but was later arrested.
Antônio had been in Portugal since October 2022, when he decided to leave Brazil in search of work. He lived with his girlfriend, in-laws and sisters-in-law.
To g1, Davy Pereira, Antônio’s father, said that his son worked as a waiter in a restaurant. The young man, who turned 20 on the 5th, already had his return ticket to Brazil purchased for the 21st of this month.
The relatives sought the Brazilian Consulate in Portugal and are awaiting guidance on the procedure for transferring the body.
“At first, what information do I have [é que] they asked us to look for a funeral home there,” said Davy.
Sought by g1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil had not taken a position until the publication of this report.
The family created a crowdfunding online with the aim of raising funds to be able to bring the body. The cost of the transfer was BRL 32,000.
“We’ve already started with the help of neighbors here, because we don’t have the conditions to pay for the funeral of everything”, said the young man’s father.
