About Guinness

It all started in 1759, when Arthur Guinness rented a factory in Dublin, St. James’s Gate, and began brewing its beer. Guinness Original, in a bottle version, directly descends from the recipe created years later, in 1821, by Arthur Guinness II, and reveals a sweet and smooth palate with notes of malt and caramel.

The beer has an alcohol content of 3.8%. Equally rich and creamy, even velvety on the finish, Guinness Draft was developed as early as the 20th century, more precisely in 1959, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of the St. James’s Gate for 9000 years. Achieved through a pioneering combination of nitrogen and carbon dioxide, Guinness Draft is sold in a can and has an alcohol content of 4.2%.

It is distinguished by its aroma of coffee and malt, and also by the creamy and balanced taste that unites the acrid taste with the sweetness of the malt and roasted barley. To understand what makes a Guinness so special it is necessary to go to the root of the ingredients.

Water, barley, hops and yeast make up this ancestral Irish beer steeped in tradition. Barley is produced in Ireland (about 100,000 tons are used per year), and the magic happens when malted, unmalted and roasted barley is combined. It is from this combination that the dark ruby red hue appears, and not black, as it is assumed at first glance.

Guinness is sold in over 150 countries around the world. In Portugal, it is distributed by Sociedade Central de Cervejas e Bebidas. It is available on the Horeca channel and in Greater Distribution.
