The epicenter of the earthquake was the same as at the beginning of the month

According to Taiwan authorities, there was no major damage and no one was injured. According to firefighters, the most worrying situation is that of a hotel that had already been damaged by the tremors of recent weeks and is now at risk of collapsing. The place, however, was already empty and out of operation.

The earthquakes in the last few hours occurred in Hualien County, a predominantly rural area in the east of the island. This same region was the epicenter of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that left at least 14 people dead on April 3.

Taiwan is located at the junction of two tectonic plates, making the region prone to earthquakes. In 2016, more than 100 people died in a tremor in the south of the island. Before that, in 1999, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake killed more than two thousand people in the territory. The information is from CNN.

Several tremors have been felt on the island

  • Since the earthquake in early April, several tremors have been recorded in Taiwan.
  • However, these phenomena have not been of great intensity.
  • Despite this, they create a lot of inconvenience, especially because the island’s authorities are still working on rebuilding everything that was destroyed on the 3rd of this month.
  • At that time, the tremor caused the collapse of dozens of buildings.
  • Tsunami warnings were issued on the island, as well as in parts of China, the Philippines and Japan.
  • However, the risk of giant waves was ruled out a few hours later.
  • According to the Taiwanese government, nuclear power plant operations remained normal and power distribution was stabilized shortly after the earthquake.
  • The Civil Aviation Administration said no flights were impacted.
