Brazilian surfer João Chianca, known as Chumbinho, is back in competition. After a serious accident at Pipeline, in Hawaii, João will compete in his first competition of 2024 at the Gold Coast stage of the Challenger Series, in Australia. The information was from the AOS Media portal and confirmed by ge.globo.

Chumbinho appears training in the water after accident at Pipeline

The Brazilian did not compete in the elite stages of world surfing in 2024, which left him out of the mid-season cut. Now, João will have to participate in the Challenger Series competitions with the aim of returning to the elite next year. The Brazilian is also one of Brazil’s six representatives at the Paris Olympic Games in July.

The Gold Coast stage takes place between April 27th and May 4th. In addition to João, 18 other Brazilians will also be present at the Gold Coast stage. In total, there will be 15 men and four women. See the list:
