The meeting of the Ouro Líquido project that brought together experts and around two dozen people last Saturday, April 20th, in Alcorriol, municipality of Torres Novas, was held with the aim of teaching how to be competitive and innovative when selling experiences in olive groves traditional. Luís Melo, project consultant, explained that olive tourism is a new business opportunity and an instrument of creating value for the traditional olive groves that predominate in the territories of Torres Novas and Alcanena, adding value to rural communities and abandoned olive groves.

Fernanda Oliveira, representative of the Olive4All project, stated that based on the unique and differentiating aspects of the territory it is possible to add tourist value by transforming the stories of the local community and their olive farming practices into authentic tourist experiences, generating revenue for the territory.

The founder of Portugal Farm Experiences, Estevão Anacleto, who sells agricultural experiences to tourists, mainly Americans, also discussed several olive tourism products to combat seasonality, such as olive picking, olive oil tasting, a visit to a traditional olive press or even a dinner under an olive tree. The businessman said that tourists like authenticity and pay for experiences that connect them to the territory.
