In a video published on TikTok, the social network’s executive president, Shou Zi Chew, said that the company must fight against ban proposed by a law approved in the American Congress and sanctioned by President Joe Biden.

According to the executive, this is a legal challenge that will generate a long battle in court, and the social network, which has 170 million users in the United States, must rely on the First Amendment to defend its interests.

Stay calm. We’re not going anywhere. The facts and the Constitution are on our side and we will win again.

In a ceremony held at the White House, Joe Biden sanctioned the law that sets a deadline of January 19, 2025 for ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, to sell the application to an American company.

We don’t want to see a ban. This is an application that is owned by the People’s Republic of China – said White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.

At the moment, ByteDance isn’t even talking about selling the social network or separating the American version from the one used in the rest of the world. This is because many analysts recognize that there is no American company that can buy the application without having regulatory problems with antitrust bodies.

Therefore, everything indicates that we will have a major legal battle between the social network and the banning law. In a similar case, TikTok managed to overturn a ban in the state of Montana after appealing to the First Amendment.

Congressmen also recognize that TikTok generates many jobs in the United States and this could be at risk if a total ban happens.

We must recognize the impact on TikTok workers and our local economies as we determine a path forward. Many employees are in New York and California – said Senator Laphonza Butler.
