Distant prices, different realities

The Kicks line will change, with new visuals and the long-awaited 1.0 turbo engine, but this should still take a while for Brazilians. For now, it continues with the 1.6 naturally aspirated engine and CVT transmission.

The Active version costs between R$113,000 and R$115,000, with the option of adding the multimedia center, positioned slightly below the Sense, which costs just over R$118,000. The intermediate Advance version requires a greater investment, costing between R$136,000 and R$138,000.

At the top of the range, the Nissan model features the Exclusive version, which costs more than R$150,000 and also has an optional package that raises the maximum price to R$152,200.

Prices for the Kicks 2024 versions:

  • Kicks Active 1.6 CVT – R$ 112,990
  • Kicks Active 1.6 CVT + Multimedia – R$ 114,990
  • Kicks Sense 1.6 CVT – R$ 118,290
  • Kicks Advance 1.6 CVT – R$ 135,990
  • Kicks Advance 1.6 CVT + Pack Plus – R$ 138,190
  • Kicks Exclusive 1.6 CVT – R$ 150,190
  • Kicks Exclusive 1.6 CVT + Tech Pack – R$ 152,190

If the only issue here was the price list, these two SUVs wouldn’t even be considered rivals.

Just take a look at the price of the most expensive version of the Kicks and then the starting price of the HR-V to realize this.

The Honda model, which has always been more expensive than many of its competitors, starts at R$152,700 in the EX version and reaches R$162,300 in the EXL. Both options use the 1.5 naturally aspirated engine, which may be lacking in the opinion of some.

If the option is for the 1.5 turbo, the Japanese have the Advance and Touring versions, which cost much more: between R$188,500 and almost R$200,000. In other words, if the price is decisive for you, the Kicks is a better option.

See the HR-V 2024 table:

  • HR-V EX Sensing 1.5 – R$ 152,700
  • HR-V EXL Sensing 1.5 – R$ 162,300
  • HR-V Advance 1.5 Turbo – R$ 188,500
  • HR-V Touring 1.5 Turbo – R$ 199,800

WINNER:Kicks.

More equipped Kicks or entry-level HR-V?

Even though they occupy such different price ranges, these two models can still be compared considering their cost-benefit ratio. After all, with R$152,000, is it better to buy the complete Nissan or the entry-level version of the Honda?

Both are equipped with six airbags, frontal collision and blind spot alerts, lane change assistant, twilight sensor, digital air conditioning, cruise control, start button, LED lights, 8″ multimedia and 17-inch wheels, among others. items.

The Kicks Exclusive is the only one with rear cross traffic alert, 360° camera, leather seats, rain sensor, wireless charger and Bose sound, while only the HR-V EX has ACC, automatic high beams, rear air vent -conditioning, LED DRL, electronic parking brake with Auto Hold and wireless mirroring.

You can say that they are equivalent, as each customer will have their preferences. Therefore, in the only possible comparison between SUVs with such different prices, we had a tie.

WINNER: A tie.

The Honda is more efficient

The Kicks proves its qualities with its excellent momentum in the Brazilian market, but it’s still common to hear that it’s a shame the Japanese car doesn’t have a turbo engine. As everyone knows, this will soon be resolved by the brand.

For now, it continues with the 1.6 aspirated engine with 113 hp and 15.2 kgfm, which values comfort with the CVT transmission. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds, with a maximum speed of 175 km/h.

The HR-V follows the same line with its cheaper versions, which use the 1.5 naturally aspirated engine with 126 hp and 15.8 kgfm, also connected to the CVT transmission. The curious thing is that, even though it is more powerful, it has identical performance to its rival: 0 to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 175 km/h.

The big advantage is the 1.5 turbo engine with 177 hp and 24.5 kgfm (also with CVT transmission) in the more expensive versions. With this engine, the SUV reaches 100 km/h in just 8.9 seconds, while the top speed rises to 200 km/h.

Looking at consumption, the Kicks is disappointing because it is far from the HR-V 1.5 in the city, but ends up having similar numbers on the road. Even so, the naturally aspirated Honda is the best in all measurements.

The turbo version delivers much higher performance, so consumption is expected to be lower. Even so, it manages to be similar to the Kicks in the city, only falling behind on the road.

In any case, Honda’s SUV manages to offer the best performance with the turbocharged version and the best consumption with the aspirated configurations.

Consumption Kicks HR-V 1.5 HR-V Turbo
City – ethanol 7.8 8.8 7.9
City – gasoline 11.4 12.7 11.3
Road – ethanol 9.5 9.8 8.8
Road – gasoline 13.8 13.9 12.6

WINNER: HR-V.

Larger interior space or trunk?

To define which model offers more internal space, just look at the wheelbase. But here we have two SUVs measuring 2.61 meters, so that means comfort will be identical, right?

In practice, the HR-V appears to be larger. In fact, it really is, as it is 4.33 or 4.38 m long and 1.79 m wide, while the Kicks measures 4.31 m and 1.76 m, respectively. At height, they both measure 1.59 m.

Furthermore, the Nissan model prioritizes space in the trunk, where it holds 432 liters, while the Honda has only 354 liters. With all this explained, it becomes easier to understand that rear occupants will have more space in the HR-V.

There they will also see a central armrest and other important amenities, such as rear air conditioning and USB ports, while the Kicks has none of these.

But before declaring the Honda’s victory, remember the significant difference in trunk space, where the Nissan carries almost 80 additional liters.

This cannot be left aside, especially in a segment that is so important for those who have children and need this space.

WINNER: A tie.

Kicks is cheaper in reviews

There are many similarities between these models when we talk about after-sales: both offer a 3-year warranty and use the conventional program for their inspections, with stops every 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first.

But the main difference appears where it matters most to the consumer, which is price.

In the case of the Kicks, revisions vary between two fixed values, totaling R$4,600 up to 60,000 km.

In the same period, the HR-V costs almost R$6,200, a very big difference. This can be explained by the 40,000 km and 60,000 km inspections, which cost almost twice as much as the rival.

Reviews Kicks HR-V
10,000 km R$ 615.00 R$ 419.80
20,000 km R$ 918.00 BRL 648.36
30,000km R$ 615.00 BRL 851.10
40,000km R$ 918.00 R$ 1,790.64
50,000 km R$ 615.00 R$ 720.80
60,000km R$ 918.00 R$ 1,707.05
TOTAL BRL 4,599.00 BRL 6,137.75

Nissan is happy as hell

Kicks is experiencing an excellent moment in sales here, taking the lead in this regard. In 2024, talking about the first quarter, it accumulated 13,015 units, appearing in 2nd position in the segment and closely chasing the leader Creta.

Meanwhile, the HR-V occupies only 9th position, with 9,706 registrations in the same period. If we look at its prices, the result is not bad, but the Japanese is far from being among the leaders.

Last year, the story was different, as these models fought until the last month for 6th place. In the end, the Kicks did better (50,778), but the difference to the HR-V (48,054) was very small.

WINNER:Kicks.

Conclusion

Kicks was the winner in this comparison, starting with the price list that ends below the cheapest version of the rival. In addition, it also offers more affordable reviews and has much better sales in 2024.

The HR-V, in turn, won only in terms of engine, being the best in performance with the turbo engine and the most economical with the naturally aspirated engine.

They still tied in terms of equipment level (comparing the most expensive Kicks and the cheapest HR-V) and internal space.

It’s easy to see that the Honda model is a step above in several aspects, but that’s if you can spend a lot more when buying your SUV.

Looking at cost-benefit, the Kicks remains a great buy.
