An American from West Virginia (USA) confessed on his deathbed to having killed a woman and her 10-year-old daughter, bringing closure to a case that had not progressed since 2000. He gave an indication of where the bodies were victims, putting an end to one of the best-known “cold cases” (criminal investigations that remain open pending the discovery of new evidence) in the region.

Larry Webb, who was 82, said he shot and killed Susan Carter, 41, and her daughter Natasha Carter in August 2000 and then buried the victims’ bodies in a shallow grave in the woods on his property, broadcaster WSAZ reported.

The remains of the mother and daughter were discovered on Larry’s Beckley property on Monday, about six hours after the killer died at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex in Fayette County, in what police said. called it “a kind of poetic ending”.

Larry said he fought with Susan, who lived in his house with his daughter, over money and shot her. He said his money was missing and that he believed Susan had taken it and spent it, Raleigh County District Attorney Ben Hatfield said.

In order not to leave a witness, Larry decided to kill Susan’s daughter as well.

“After killing them both, he stored the bodies in the basement of the house, where he cried himself to sleep that night. And then, over the next two nights, he dug a shallow grave in the woods on his property,” Hatfield added, according to with Fox News.

Larry remained unpunished until 2023, two years after the case was reopened by the FBI (US federal police), when he was indicted for Natasha’s death. Investigators searched her home last year and found a bullet embedded in the wall of what was the girl’s bedroom. A DNA test showed that the blood on the projectile was the girl’s.

Earlier this month, the American was taken into custody. However, the victim’s body was missing, which was essential for the conviction. With just hours to live, Larry decided to cooperate and reveal details of the crime and the location of the bodies.
