The woman arrested on suspicion of killing two elderly people and injuring another in an attack on a residence in the city of Peixoto de Azevedo, in the north of Mato Grosso, on Sunday (21), smiled and pointed a firearm at a security camera.

In the video recorded at the scene, Inês Gemilaki also shows the camera to her son, doctor Bruno Gemilaki Dal Poz, who also points a 12-gauge shotgun at the equipment and appears to fire a shot. Then mother and son run away.

The crime occurred during lunch on Sunday, and at least eight people were in the house. The attack resulted in the death of Pilson Pereira da Silva, 80, and Rui Luiz Bolgo, 68. A priest in the city was also injured and rescued — he underwent surgery and is fine.

The pair surrendered to the police on Tuesday (23) after the family’s lawyer, Angelita Kemper, contacted the authorities to say that they would both surrender. Hours earlier, the brothers Márcio Ferreira Gonçalves, husband of Inês and stepfather of Bruno, and Eder Gonçalves Rodrigues, suspected of involvement in the crime, had been arrested in Alta Floresta (MT).

According to the Civil Police, the four arrested for the crime had their preventive detentions maintained after custody hearings.

According to the police, Márcio was waiting on the street in a Ford Ranger truck to help with the escape. The firearms and vehicle have not yet been located.

According to the investigation, the target was the owner of the house, who was not hit. The crime was allegedly motivated by a legal dispute arising from debts owed by Inês, the former tenant of the invaded house, with the owner of the property, who allegedly made public threats against the family.

“The suspect rented that property from the owner and when she left the residence she left some debts, which led to legal action and, from then on, several discussions and disagreements between them”, said delegate Anna Marien, responsible for the case.

According to her, the suspects went to the police station on Sunday to file a police report against the owner of the house. “However, just hours later they carried out this criminal act themselves,” she added.

Images from the home’s security cameras helped police reach the suspects.

Inês Gemilaki and doctor Bruno Gemilaki Dal Poz were located on a rural property 180 km from the city where the crime occurred and were taken for interrogation. At the time, mother and son already had preventive arrest warrants issued by the courts, identified as perpetrators of the double homicide. The arrests occurred after the family’s lawyer informed the police of her clients’ intention to surrender.
