Hospitalized since March 24th, singer Anderson Leonardo, from Molejo, died this Friday, 26th, in Rio, after a deterioration in his health. The 51-year-old artist was admitted to the ICU at Hospital Unimed, in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio. The group Molejo confirmed the singer’s death on their social networks.
Molejo singer resumed cancer treatment
“Our warrior ANDERSON LEONARDO fought bravely, but unfortunately was defeated by cancer, but he will always be remembered by all his family, friends and his immense legion of fans, for his genius, strength and love of the stage and MOLEJO. His presence and joy were a light that illuminated the lives of everyone around him, and he will be deeply missed and never forgotten, we love you”, informed the artist’s team this Friday afternoon (26).
Since the end of 2022, when he discovered inguinal cancer (in the groin region), Anderson Leonardo, lead singer of the group Molejo, had been undergoing treatment to control the progression of the disease and alleviate the pain resulting from it.

Anderson was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Hospital Unimed-Rio, where he had been since March 24, due to the consequences of treatment against cancer, diagnosed in 2022. Last week, he needed blood transfusion and his friends campaigned for donation.
Before his last entry into the unit, the singer had already been admitted on February 27th and stayed in the hospital for 20 days, after undergoing a procedure called hypogastric nerve plexus block for pain.
In addition to the procedure, he continued immunotherapy treatment. “He has been undergoing immunotherapy treatment every 21 days”, explained members of the singer’s team at the time.
The cancer in the inguinal region was discovered by him in October 2022. Two months later, the singer announced that he was cured. However, in May 2023, he said he had to resume treatment.
Anderson Leonardo and his trajectory with Molejo
At the end of the 1980s, Anderson Leonardo joined five other friends (Andrezinho, Claumirzinho, Lúcio Nascimento, Robson Calazans and Jimmy Batera) to found Molejo. The members of the musical group formed in Méier, North Zone of Rio, little did they know that they would become a rage in Brazil with their fun songs, which, to this day, liven up any party.
Five years after the initial formation, the pagode group released its first album, which sold more than 100 thousand copies. The flagship of the debut album was the song “Caçamba”, which opened the CD.
Molejo’s peak was at the end of the 90s with songs that marked an era, such as ‘Child’s Play’, ‘Cilada’ and ‘Dança da broom’. They are still played today by the group itself, when they hold events and perform at concert halls.
