It is known that climate change is expected to have devastating effects on various agricultural crops in the long term. Some of them are already facing its perverse effects. In one year, the price of a ton of cocoa quadrupled, going from 3,000 dollars to 11,000 dollars. Behind this is the fact that more than half of the world’s cocoa is produced in countries like Ghana and Ivory Coast, which are exposed to extreme weather phenomena. El Niño wiped out cocoa farms in the region, causing global production to fall by 10% in 2023. With low production of the fruit, its best-known product — chocolate — will remain expensive for a long time. And life, a little more bitter.
